Stock Market Up

...on State of Union

Down for the day on Emoti-Cons!*

The market did openly very slightly up, but fell only slightly down.

* A buddy told me he'd judge the SOTU by the stock market opening.  I told him they might be judging on the emoticons of the Republican obstructionist.  Since their smiles are upside down[**], be happy, but the market registered their staying the frown.

Tetra* Heed Run of Progress.

[But something is fishy.]

* Not in particular order**.

** But emphasis on Norman Goldman's plea: "Am I all alone?"
There are one or two & a half others.  Which makes "Three and a Half-Pundits"!

This was noted before he put his exclamation point on it(clip not available), in regard to a reference to the Jon Stewart and Bill O'Reilly Debate and the "fog of capitalism" (my paraphrase), not to mention AP-Paul-ING-Susan and End of Interview.(Fee, fi(dough), foe, King)

And just to file Hartmann and Rhodes under Heed and Run,(another 3&1/2 including me) the latter wonderfully read former Republican Senator Pressler's endorsement of President Obama for a second term.

Smirking Gun[!]

OK, I won't overuse the term smoking gun, but when I heard Senator McCain's leak theory, I knew something was up.  "The only conceivable" reason that McCain knows the "motive for such damaging and compromising leaks" is that it is something he could conceive of doing.  The Issa cover-up committee is along the same track.  Worse than Watergate, less than WMD***.

September 11th occurred because the Bush administration had contempt for the Clinton administration and refused to carry on in the case against terrorism.  Fast and Furious is still under investigation, but it seems that the political case is of the opposite extreme.  The Obama administration not changing more from the previous administration.

I have a feeling that the Issa Committee investigation is actually an attempt to interfere with the Obama administration* of justice and foreign policy.  Or retribution for Watergate, Iran Contra and Plame combined, or Republican power** as usual.

(I was reticent to use 9/11, especially with the smoking[!] gun lede-in. While Representative Mica is really stretching things, two things are certain. September 11th or even a dead ATF agent are nothing to smirk about, and Representative Issa hides his smirk with a snear.)

[A friend asked my opinion on the wikileaks deal. Well more specifically the personalities involved.  Bottomline, I don't feel that military personel should take it on themselve to leak top secret information without considering the consequences, nor should they have been distributed without the same considerations.  Unfortunately there may not be enough law on the books to prosecute the latter although there certainly is for the former.  Who do we have to blame for the laws on the books?  Congress.  Who do we have for not enough laws on the books?  Republicans.  Well, it is not the quantity but the quality.  But the answer is the same.  Talk is cheap, but actions*2 cost.]

Choice v. Referendum

The choice is between looking back or going back.  Between Obama's turnaround and Raw Money's turnaround.   The economy has turned around and Obama can claim his second term.  The economy may turnaround* either way, but it does depend on actions and even inactions, not just words.  Ravi Batra predicts a double dip before the November election but also a recovery next administration.  So talk may be cheap, but it does depend on who you listen to***, and who we follow.

Supreme Court Jest Ice?

Where is the ice going? Well here is where it is coming from:
The New Yorker*: Rational Irrationality.

Actually I will be intentionally preemptive**.
Is it some form of martial arts political calculus?
Maybe I have too much hope for Obama or too much faith in The New Yorker.
Bottom line, I have yet to read the article, but wanted to jump*** on the band wagon.(NOT!)

[3-29-12 ALEC: Stand your Ground, Supreme Court Activism/ both sans comment.]

[Follow-up:

Seattle Excerpts, interesting hodge-podge of exchanges. If the constitution is not a living document, what is federalism? Killing two ironies in one comment?
Justice Antonin Scalia: Mr. Kneedler, what happened to the Eighth Amendment? You really want us to go through these 2,700 pages? And do you really expect the court to do that? Or do you expect us to give this function to our law clerks? Is this not totally unrealistic? That we're going to go through this enormous bill item by item and decide each one?
Deputy Solicitor General Edwin Kneedler: Well ...
Times "seemingly split over ideology"/
But Roberts and Kennedy also asked enough pointed questions of the law's challengers to give the overhaul's supporters some hope. In any event, justices' questions at arguments do not always foretell their positions.
Activism: "Justices Split".

Intentionally: Read Healthcare Jujitsu, Political Jujitsu, what's the difference? The party and the people. It would seem to me that Obama is the master, even without single payer as a goal. It might be called "free market" jujitsu where that is what could be flipped by even an option. The "free market" economic fantasy is under threat of being flipped as the fraud it is, under even the offer of competition. Maybe there is the jest ice.

Breitbart Lives!

Not exactly the Starting Point, but Soledad O'Brien "clashes" with Big Journalism** Editor-in-Chief over "critical race theory" and a with-held video.
It almost seems that CNN* is a wannabe FOX or MSNBC.
It is more than swift iron knee that FOX has any concern for material being with-held.

* not to single out or be overly critical of CNN or Soledad O'Brien, but they do seem to be competing for "fair and balanced" between the other two "news" networks. FOX is the veritable "you started it" network. The media was too liberal so they had to have a "fair and balanced" take on their reality. Making room for MSNBC as a counter force. CNN has the real challenge trying not to be either, but still news or journalism in a market environment.

A Shot in the Arm?

A collegue recently commented on the difficulty or the desire to be objective.  This nails perspectivism on the head, or is it the cross?  From neo-perspectivism through neo-nuanced and neo-platonic we do have a dynamic*** of global balance.  More sorting later*.    Thus spoke Niche?

BTW: Under the Flip link there is an accounting or statistical trick that is not unknown to the debate.  I won't play upon it, but it involves the "average tax cut" versus "the middle-income American."  It is mathematical hyperbole as well as reasonable, where reality is even more confusing.  It is more accurate to say that the richest are paying a lesser per cent of their gross (actual tax rate) than any other income category after the  standard deductions and other taxes are accounted for.]
